Everyone, get your running shoes ready!

Standard Chartered Bank renewed its title sponsorship of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon for a further four years until 2012 with a commitment to invest about S$10 million in sponsorship and promotion fees over the next four years.

The extension of the sponsorship underscores the success of the partnership with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and the Singapore Athletic Association (SAA) in establishing the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon as the country's premier race, one that is renowned for its superb organization. The event has been enjoying tremendous success ever since it started in 2002, from 6,000 participants to 50,000 participants last year.

So, what exactly made Standard Chartered want to continue supporting this marathon? "We are extremely proud to see the event that we have nurtured since 2002 become such a resounding success…It is important that home-grown events…continue to grow and flourish in Singapore. It takes a lot of courage and determination to take on the challenge of a long race. Every one of the runners is an inspiration for our continued commitment to this great event," said Mr. Lim Cheng Teck, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Singapore.

Now, fans of this marathon will be happy to hear that this marathon will still continue and not be postponed due to the current economic climate.

A significant change to this year's marathon would be the apparel sponsor. New Balance, one of the leading global manufacturers of athletics products would be sponsoring for the next three years, including this year. Did you know that New Balance was the first apparel sponsor for the Singapore Marathon? So, runners will definitely be pleased at the new brand apparels they will be getting this year!
