It is the first time that World Walking Day event was held in Hangzhou on June 5th. As that day is the World Environment Day, many participants aimed to engaging in walking to foster environmental friendly and low carbon values. Around 6000 citizens took part in this 5 kilometers long event.
Many participants said, "Hangzhou is always regarded as a scenic wonderland, and we should encourage more citizens to participating in walking, one of the green life styles, so as to make the city more beautiful. During the 5 kilometers walking, they not only got the right scientific exercising methods, but also react positively to this year World Environment Day's theme. Moreover, the participants took the environmental friendly bags, bottles and handkerchiefs, instead of disposable paper cup and tissues. Many citizens who used to drive to work attended this event as well. They said, "Hangzhou suffers from the increasingly serious traffic congestion problem day by day, and the environment is getting worse and worse, as a result, we and the society would derive substantial benefits, if we walked more or drove less."
