Community Based Sports Development Programme of Mauritius

The Community Based Sports Development Programme will be launched on Thursday 22nd October 2009 and will last for 12 weeks at the Glen-Park Sports Complex.Community Based Sports Development Programme is crucial to the vitality and productivity of every society as it provides opportunities for beneficial involvement in sporting and recreational activities.In this context, the Mauritius Sports Council, proposes to optimize the use of sports facilities falling under its management, by setting up sports structures that will allow everyone to get easy access to these facilities. The Mauritius Sports Council will carry out the Community Based Sports Development Programme by working in close collaboration with Local Authorities, the Force Vives and the Private Sector.The main objectives are:•To improve health and enhance quality of life through regular physical activities •To strengthen the bond between family members and among neighbours •To inculcate positive values through sports and combat social ills •To encourage the multi-purpose use of sports facilities by the community •To initiate sports and games activities at grass root level •To promote elite sports
